Brazil June beef exports hit second highest volume ever

Brazil shipped 192.74 thousand tons last month

Despite the halt in the Brazilian shipments of beef to China (the top destination of the product) in February and March, in the first semester of 2023, exports had the second-best performance in all times, considering Secex series. The volume shipped between January and June was only lower than that exported in the same period of 2022.

According to data from Secex and reported by Cepea, Brazilian beef exports totalled 882.67 thousand tons in the first semester of 2023, 5.33% below that registered in the same period last year (which was a record), but 13.54% above the volume shipped in the first semester of 2020, which, until then, had the second-best result.

Although the real has become stronger over the last months, the national beef continued competitive in the international market, favouring a good exports performance in June. Last month, Brazil shipped 192.74 thousand tons of beef, 14.4% more than that exported in May.

As for the price paid for the Brazilian beef, the average in June closed at USD 5,054.1 per ton, 0.88% below that paid in May and 26% lower than that from June/22.

The revenue received in June was the second highest for a first semester in all times. Data from Secex indicate that the revenue from beef exports between January and June 2023 totalled USD 4.35 billion, 22.66% lower than the record registered in the same period last year.
