Mexico registers record expenses in imports of basic grains: 17 thousand 70 million dollars

The value of Mexico’s acquisitions of basic grains and oilseeds abroad closed 2022 with a total of 17.7 billion dollars, an unprecedented annual figure since records exist (1993), this as a consequence of the high international prices of raw materials as a result of the war, since Ukraine is one of the main grain producers in the world, but the armed conflict with Russia has cut its supply chain.

Thus, according to information from the Agricultural Markets Consulting Group (GCMA), based on records from the Tax Administration Service (SAT), the country’s spending on basic products such as corn, beans, wheat, soybeans, rice and oils, among others, registered an increase of 17.6 percent compared to 15 billion in 2021.
