Mexico imposes a 50% tariff on corn exports to control the price

The Mexican Government will apply from this Tuesday a 50% tariff on the export of white corn, according to the decree published last night in the Official Gazette of the Federation. The measure, which only affects white flour corn intended for human consumption, aims to help contain the increase in the cost of this basic good in Mexican food, which last November reached a price that had not been seen in 24 years. This decree serves to put pressure on producers and is added to the measure approved last October, when the Government eliminated the tariffs imposed on corn imports , favoring the increase in the supply in the national market and, therefore, the supposed decrease of the price, a result that has not yet materialized.
