Mad cows and agrarian reform

The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture announced on Wednesday the temporary suspension of beef exports to China due to a case of “mad cow” identified and confirmed in the rural town of Marabá , in the state of Pará . It is a degenerative disease that affects the nervous system of cattle, known as bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) and that can also infect humans if they consume contaminated meat.
