China could increase its import of pork due to doubts about the evolution of its pig herd

A number of analysts have predicted that China could again increase its levels of pork imports due to doubts about the progress of its pig herd and the sharp increase in prices at points of sale. And it is that pork prices are 51.8% higher than those of a year ago according to the National Statistics Office and it is estimated that they will remain high during 2023 due to the fact that there will be a lower supply. Thus, according to Jim Long, executive director of Genesus in Canada, one of the main swine genetics firms, “we must be vigilant with China as we expect an increase in sales due to its shortage of pork.”
