Brazil and China will lead global beef trade in 2023

In 2022, Brazil exported 2.2 million tons (Mt) (through the end of November), twice as much beef as the next largest exporter, the US. Between them, this represents a third of the total beef traded globally and Brazil and the US also have significant market shares in the largest importer, China. They are expected to have imported about 2.5 Mt of beef for the year that has just ended and the most recent data from Brazil at the end of November showed that 1.24 Mt came from there, while the US has supplied about 300,000 t, with the last count unknown until February 2023.
